I have tested this website with Internet Explorer 5.5 & 6, Netscape Navigator 7, Mozilla 1.1(5.0) and Opera 6, on Windows (ME and XP) only. The behaviour is not the same on all browsers - not all effects will be shown (particularly not on older versions, I assume) - but they all seem to reproduce the content of the web pages OK. Opera has to be told how to accept text files masquerading as web pages.
I have had a great deal of trouble getting IE to work with applets: IE 6.0 does work with the help of the Java Plugin, on my machine. The other three browsers worked "out of the box", and I hope they continue to do so
I have now got a couple of pages which include some MathML: it does not display faultlessly, but perhaps will improve with time. These are OK with Netscape and Mozilla. With IE, you must first download MathPlayer or Techexplorer: I have checked IE 6.0 with MathPlayer, and it seemed OK, but it now seems to object to something in the XML style sheet. I regret to say that the pages with MathML don't work with Opera.
The version of Java used is 1.3 but later applets may use 1.4.
I have now abandoned frameset layout in favour of CSS Level 2 layouts. This means some older browsers may not cope. As up-to-date versions of all the major browsers can be obtained free, I do not feel that I need to apologize for this, but I do regret if there are any bugs not sorted out.
